How U.S. killed Osama bin Laden

The mission that killed one of the world's most notorious terrorist leaders was carried out by U.S. forces with the cooperation of Pakistan, U.S. President Barack Obama said Sunday night.

Osama bin Laden -- the longtime leader of al Qaeda -- was killed by U.S. forces in a mansion about 100 kilometers, or 62 miles, north of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad along with other family members, a senior U.S. official told.

Members of Pakistan's intelligence service, the ISI, were on site in Abbottabad during the operation, a senior Pakistani intelligence official said.

Bin Laden resisted the assault and was killed in a firefight, senior administration officials said.
The Pakistani intelligence official said he did not know who fired the shot that actually killed the terror mastermind.

Three other men were also killed in raid, as was a woman who was being used as a human shield, senior administration officials said.

The U.S. team was at the compound for about 40 minutes, the officials said. There were no casualties on the American side, although a U.S. helicopter crashed during the raid due to mechanical problems. The helicopter was then destroyed for security reasons, senior administration officials said.

A senior administration official told reporters that Obama's administration did not share intelligence gathered beforehand with any other country -- including Pakistan -- for security reasons.
The official said only a small group of people inside the U.S. government knew about this operation ahead of time. Another official said a "small U.S. team" was involved in the operation; but the official would not confirm any U.S. military involvement.

However, a senior defense official said U.S. Navy SEALs were involved.

Obama Gaddafi would increase violence in Libya

Sending a tough message to Muammar Gaddafi, US President Barack Obama today said that the Libyan leader would be held accountable for any violence that happens in the country now.
"I want to send a very clear message to those who are around Colonel Gaddafi. It is their choice to make how they operate moving forward and they will be held accountable for whatever violence continues to take place there," Obama said in a joint press availability with visiting Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, in the Oval Office of the White House.
"In the meantime, we've got NATO, as we speak consulting in Brussels around a wide range of potential options, including potential military options, in response to the violence that continues to take place inside of Libya," he said.
In addition, the US has taken the lead on a host of humanitarian efforts, as the country appeared to be now entering into a civil war, with violent clashes being reported between forces loyal to Gaddafi and pro-democracy people.

Obama said he has just authorised an additional USD 15 million that will be provided to aid organisations that are already on the ground.

"We've been coordinating with the UN, which now has a number of personnel on the ground as well, to make sure that people are getting the help they need, and we are in a position to respond to any additional emergencies that may arise out of the situation there," Obama said.

"The bottom line is I think, Australia and the US stand shoulder to shoulder in sending a clear message that we stand for democracy, we stand for an observance of human rights, and that we send a very clear message to the Libyan people that we will stand with them in the face of unwarranted violence and the continuing suppression of democratic ideals that we've seen there," Obama said.
The US President said he had a discussion about the situation in the Middle East.

"I think Prime Minister Gillard and I both share a very firm conviction that the violence that's been taking place and perpetrated by the government in Libya is unacceptable.

Australia joined with us in imposing swift and firm sanctions, comprehensive sanctions, against the government.

We continue to monitor the violence there," Obama said.

Obama planning to capture Libya for crude . if  he felt that its not acceptable one , then why he didn't speak anything against Srilanka war crime. where he went at that time. Like Bush obama also want to place his name in War history. America cheating everyone in this world.

People speaking about Libya crime should also speak about srilank war crime. Srilanka army killed its own people.

US President Barack Obama_quit_smoking

US President Barack Obama has finally kicked his smoking habit, first lady Michelle Obama said on Tuesday.
It has been "almost a year" since the president had a cigarette, his wife told reporters at a White House luncheon to mark the first anniversary of her "Let's Move" childhood health initiative.
"It's been a while and I'm very proud of him," she was quoted as saying by The Washington Post. "I haven't poked and prodded. When somebody is doing the right thing, you don't mess with them."
Yes, he did! First lady says Obama quit smoking

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in December that Obama appeared to be making progress in his struggle to give up cigarettes and was chewing nicotine gum as a replacement. He said then he had not seen or witnessed any evidence of Obama smoking in probably nine months.

No Facebook for Barack Obama's_daughters

The two young daughters of US President Barack Obama are not on popular social networking site Facebook with their mother feeling that it's not something they need right now.
"No" the First Lady Michelle said in an interview to the NBC News when asked if Malia, 12, and Sasha, 9, are on the Facebook.

"I'm not a big fan of young kids having Facebook.
No Facebook for Barack Obama's daughters!

So, you know, it's not something they need. It's not necessary right now," the First Lady argued.
Michelle said they are trying their best to make their daughters as normal as possible and they have been successful so far.

"I think we've done a good job. If you talk to our kids, they're really very normal. We recognise them. I say this all the time, but friends who come to visit, they look and go, 'These are the little girls we've known'. So we're
just going to stay vigilant. Knock on wood," Michelle said.

"There are a lot of great kids who have come out of the White House, so the tradition is great. The Bush girls are magnificent.

Chelsea Clinton, she's a solid young woman. We're all proud of them. So folks have done - Caroline Kennedy. I mean, we've got a pretty good track record. So the Obama girls hopefully will be among that group," she said.

US lifts ban on ISRO, DRDO

Washington: Fulfilling a promise made by President Barack Obama in November, the US has removed nine Indian space and defence-related companies from the so-called Entity List to drive hi-tech trade and forge closer strategic ties with India.
The companies removed from the export control list for sensitive items, which triggers export-licence requirements on goods that normally don't require a licence, include subsidiaries of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The restrictions have been in place since India tested nuclear weapons in 1998. The move by the commerce department described as the "first steps" to implement the export control policy initiatives announced by Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Nov 8 comes ahead of a visit to New Delhi Feb 6 of Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, who is leading 24 US businesses on a high-tech trade mission to India.
"Today's action marks a significant milestone in reinforcing the US-India strategic partnership and moving forward with export-control reforms that will facilitate high-technology trade and cooperation," Locke said in a statement.

US lifts ban on ISRO, DRDO

The perception of onerous US export controls certainly has been a hindrance to high-technology trade over the years," a US administration official told reporters on a conference call. "So our goal was to remove India from the categories within those dual-use regulations that connote countries as proliferation concerns."
Two major changes, which will go into effect Tuesday, will begin the process of putting export controls for India "on a normalised footing", the official said. In addition, regarding the licensing of so-called dual-use goods that can be used for either civilian or military purposes, India is no longer being treated as a "country of concern" regarding proliferation of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.
Among the companies on the US delegation to India are aerospace giants like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Boeing was a major beneficiary of Obama's trip, accounting for several billion dollars worth of the nearly $15 billion in business sales that were announced.

The US will continue to work with the Indian government to remove some remaining unilateral restrictions this year, the official said. It is also supporting India's efforts to join four multilateral export-control regimes, which will require the country to revise its own export restrictions.
Following up on exemptions long sought by India, the US commerce department's Bureau of Industry and Security Monday published a Federal Register Notice which updates the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) relating to India in several ways.
Among them:
* Removing several Indian space- and defence-related companies from the Entity List. Removal from the Entity List eliminates a licence requirement specific to the companies, and results in the removed companies being treated the same way as any other destination in India for export licensing purposes.
* Removing India from several country groups in the EAR resulting in the removal of export licence requirements that were tied to India's placement in those country groups.
* Adding India to a country group in the EAR that consists of members of the Missile Technology Control Regime, to recognize and communicate India's adherence to the regime, the US-India strategic partnership, and India's global non-proliferation standing.

Indian Royal dinner for Obama

The state dinner hosted by President Pratibha Patil for US President Barack Obama and his wife took place in a very opulent setting at the grand Mughal Gardens on Rashtrapati Bhavan’s grounds. Flowers, rangoli and floating candles added a touch of Indian glamour to the official dinner. So did Michelle Obama

What the President Ate: President Obama was given a taste of India. He was served chicken shami kebab, sunehri kalai lamb, fish tikka achari, pista murg and palak papri chat. He also tucked into zeera pulao, rotis, naans, puran poli and pineapple halwa.

Perfect Hostess: President Patil played the perfect hostess as she explained the menu to President Obama. All the food was prepared by Rashtrapati Bhavan chefs and served by waiters dressed in traditional red uniforms with golden braiding and turbans.

Warm Welcome: Presidents Obama and Patil greeted guests as they arrived for dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

A Royal Setting: The lavish dinner took place in a beautifully-lit tent in the Mughal Gardens. Glimmering diyas were set around white and lavender petal rangolis, while rajnigandha garlands decorated the path leading up to the garden. The centre piece for the banquet table was made with floating candles.

Michelle Obama, Queen of Style: At the state dinner hosted by Indian president Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan, US First Lady Michelle Obama dazzled guests in an elegant floor-length creation with jewelled belt by Indian American designer Rachel Roy. Some critics were disappointed she didn’t turn up in a sari, however.

Taj mahal Hotel presidential suite for Mr. Obama-India visit2010

Obama and Michelle may miss a Taj visit

The American first couple, Barack and Michelle would miss a tryst with Taj Mahal, a symbol of love during their maiden visit to India, but US official did not rule out a future trip.
"The first couple would not be having a trip to the Taj Mahal this time", Ben Rhodes Deputy National Security Advisor said at a White House briefing on US President's visit to India adding " but hopefully he would in future".
"He (Obama) loves to see the Taj Mahal. He could at some point." he said.

"Certainly we wouldn't rule out any visit (to the Taj Mahal) in the future. And, hopefully, we ll be able to return to India. But right now, we re focused on this upcoming trip," Rhodes said in response to a question.
Though President Obama and the first lady may skip the fable marble monument, renowned the world over as a symbol of romance, the couple will instead make a trip to the Lutyens, Humayun`s tomb considered a forerunner to the Taj.
"The first couple, however, would be visiting Humayun's tomb," Rhodes said, describing it as one of the great cultural marvels in New Delhi.
"The President felt it was important give the rich civilization that India has, to pay tribute to that through this stop," he said.
"In India, you have one of the most dynamic and tolerant and diverse societies in the world and we want to pay tribute to that. And I think that's particularly why, we wanted to ensure that we had a culture stop in Delhi, in this instance visiting a tomb that has served as a precursor to the Taj Mahal and speaks to the enormously impressive civilization that India has had over many centuries," Rhodes said.
